May Our List Grow

Go to Bakersfield.com and in the search box near the top right corner type “backyard hens”. You will find the submitted and published “Letters to the Editor”, “Community Voices” and Bakersfield Californian articles related to our topic. There are even a few from 2012 when our grass root's movement began.

I have three points to make with this entry.

First, the efforts by many to work respectfully with our local government with the purpose of aligning the actual practice of Bakersfield backyard hen ownership with its city’s ordinance has been going on for years. There has been years of debate and conversation on the topic in the public forum. The majority of support is in favor of amending the ordinance. With this new council, at the start of their term, we are set up to succeed.

Second, I want to thank those that have written and submitted a “Letter to the Editor” in support of backyard hens. Please go to Bakersfield.com and search “backyard hens” and read some or all of the submissions. Then, it is my hope that you will be inspired to write your own (or another one).

Third, I want to remind you that the Backyard Hen Community is strong and everywhere in Bakersfield. Your participation is needed to enact change. “Hope is wishing for a thing to come true. Faith is believing it will come true. Work is making it come true.” - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Be inspired to do the work that is needed.

Thank you for submitting an editorial to the paper in support of backyard hens (may our list grow).
