I had the opportunity to talk with two Council Members today and one staff member from the City.

I was able to confirm that the Wednesday, September 23rd Council meeting will be at the 5:15 time. Arrive early, fill out a public speaker card, and let City Council know that you support backyard hens. It is important that you show up. We are so close. We need to attend this upcoming Council meeting. We need to continue to stay ahead of the public perception and view with regards to our topic being positive and supported, and we do that by attending the Council meetings with the statement, "I support backyard hens. "

I spoke with Councilman Chris Parlier of Ward 7 by phone today. I called him at this number: (661) 496-5476. I encourage you to call him also, especial those of you in Ward 7. Chris and I had a very productive and respectful conversation. At this time he is most likely going to be voting no on the backyard hens city ordinance. He shared with me that his main reason for a no vote at this time is because he has received more against hens comments from constituents than in support of backyard hens calls. Ward 7, you need to reach out to Chris and communicate with him right away and often. I know that area, and I know many of you currently have hens there. Your neighbors accept and support your backyard hens. Gather support and start calling Councilman Parlier. Have each member of the family call him separately and encourage your friends and neighbors to call as well. Promise neighbors and friends your first dozen of eggs. Just get them to call Councilman Parlier to let him know how much support there is for backyard hens. Ward 7 constituents need to call Chris Parlier with the strong message of support for backyard hens. We still might get his vote.

I spoke with Councilwoman Sullivan today as well. She is still a solid in favor of backyard hens. She shared that she has received numerous communications from her constituents regarding backyard hens and those communications have been overwhelmingly in support of hens. Great job Ward 6!

If you have not written an email to City Council members or you have not written a letter recently please take the time to do so tomorrow or Friday.

In the subject line either write your Council Member's name or "All Council Members". Be sure to also write Support Hens in the subject line.

I look forward to seeing you all at the Wednesday, September 23rd's City Council meeting that will start at 5:15. The address is 1501 Truxtun Ave. It is on the south-east corner of Truxtun and Eye street.
