A promise kept ...

Aristotle - "A promise made is a promise kept."

I wrote my editorial, submitted it and it was published today. Please take a moment to read it. I hope it inspires you to write your own. We each have our reasons why we support the backyard hen initiative. Put your reasons in print and be heard.

By writing and submitting editorials at the start of this election cycle (and during it) we make it clear that we have the public support and expect our elected city council members to undo their mistake by reapproving the passed ordinance that allowed for backyard hens in the city limits.

I have posted information, topics, suggestions and links regarding writing and submitting editorials in my blog. I have share it with many. I encourage you to share it with your circle of friends and family. Teach your child a civics' lesson about citizen participation in a republic by example. You can even help them write an editorial.

Republic: "A state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected president rather than a monarch."

The two sitting Council Members that are up for reelection (that are anti backyard hens) can be voted out. Or, they can commit to represent the majority of the constituents that they represent. They are not a "monarch".

Ward 3 (Ken Weir) and Ward 7 (Chris Parlier) need to support backyard hens or go. They are welcome to reach out to me at thebubh@gmail.com to discuss an ordnance that they can support with safeguards and restrictions that is reasonable and safe while enhancing the quality of life experiences for families. I hope they do. This is an open invitation. However, they did not do this previously when they had the chance. In fact, there was no room for a compromise from them. We were actually told to go away and to not come back. Imagine that from an elected official. So, I encourage you to take action, write your editorials and vote.

Let's overwhelm them with our voices!

Here is the link to submit an editorial:

Thank you for being part of our large and ever growing backyard hen community.

You are and can be part of something historic. Make a promise and keep it; write your editorial.
