You can see the email I wrote Councilman Bob Smith in a post I wrote about yesterday. (scroll down) Today I received a response email. Here it is:

"Good afternoon,

Thank you for your message regarding chickens within City limits. I have forwarded your message on to the staff members who will be preparing a presentation on this topic, to be presented at a future City Council meeting. Any public comments received on this topic will also be included in the record for the Council member’s consideration.

Have a wonderful day,

Brianna Carrier, Administrative Analyst 3"

Here is my response I just sent back to her:

"Brianna Carrier,

Thank you for forwarding my email “to the staff members who will be preparing a presentation on this topic, to be presented at a future City Council meeting.” I appreciate that. Who are those individuals? I would appreciate knowing so that I may have opportunities to share my views on this topic with them and learn their views. I would hope that they are in favor of allowing backyard hens. However, if they are not for some reason, I would expect opportunities to share factual data and real-life, current examples of how this can and does work in cities in our state and across our nation. I would also want to clearly articulate the numerous benefits that include: pride in community, positive mental health aspects, pest and weed control, self-reliance of food source and even possible cost savings for the city. When is this “presentation at a future City council meeting” scheduled for? Also, my email was addressed to Councilman Bob Smith. I asked him to share his views on this important and relevant topic with me. I would still like to know his personal views on allowing backyard hens.

Thank you for responding to my follow-up questions and requests. Much appreciation in advance.

Sincerely,"

I will keep you posted. Remember to write your emails!
