First, thank you to those of you that have donated on the website to sponsor my sons and possibly some of their friends to spread the backyard hen positive message. I am still learning the system and have not yet figured out how to email you a thank you note directly. I have been communicating with feed stores, and I'm reaching out to farmer markets. I am developing a plan for people to pass out fliers, talk and answer questions regarding backyard hens, and possibly start gathering signatures for a petition. Exciting stuff.

I spent time today connecting with some of our City and County departments. I had a great conversation with the Director of Planning for the City of Bakersfield. The workshop for City Council Members does not have a set date yet, but that is in the plans. He was very receptive to hear my perspective and points. Next, I tried to reach the City Attorney. She did receive my message and had someone from her department contact me. Both of these departments were very helpful, responsive and professional. Thank you. I was also able to communicate with the Kern County Animal Services Director through email. He was able to share some of the County topics and issues that I asked him about. A side benefit of my efforts to organize the expanding of R-1 zone to allow for backyard hen ownership is that I am meeting some very professional, intelligent, and capable people within the City and County.

Tomorrow I have a scheduled Zoom meeting with a new community contact person that I am very excited about. I have had so many supporters reach out to me by email or on the website within the last two weeks. Please continue to do so. Networking, collaborating and communicating a common message and plan is so important as we continue to move forward.
