The next council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, December 16th at 5:15. This council meeting is primarily a ceremonial meeting, but there will be a public statement section.
PLEAE ATTEND AND MAKE A STATEMENT OF SUPPORT FOR BACKYARD HENS
The address is 1501 Truxtun Ave. The building is located on the south-east corner of Truxtun and Eye Street. You should arrive at least 20 minutes early to find parking and fill out the public comment card. You only need to put your name and topic on the card (NOT YOUR PHONE NUMBER AND ADDRESS). For the topic write, "support backyard hens". Your talk has to be less than three (3) minutes. It is ok if it is short; just not over three (3) minutes.
Attending in person is best. I recommend you make seven (7) to ten (10) copies of your speech and turn them in at the start of your talk for the Council Members to have.
If you cannot attend in person, then you should make the following phone call. It is simple and quick. Call (661) 326-3100. Leave a voice mail of your support for backyard hens. You message needs to be less than three (3) minutes. You need to make this phone call before 4:00 PM of the Tuesday prior to the meeting. You message will be transcribed and added to the official records of the meeting.
Even if you plan on attending in person, which is best, you can still make this call.
Do the follow:
Everyone should write our Council Members at City_Council@bakersfidcity.us
Copy your email to our City Attorney also at City_Clerk@bakersfieldcity.us
This is important! In the subject of your emails write, "Support of Hens to all Council Members".
Here is something you should know. You should have every family member write their own email. Do not write one as a family. Every individual email counts and is important. Even children can write an email and share their opinion. Teaching children and getting them involved in the democratic process is a real life lesson and experience. You should be proud of that. Backyard hens is about family and enhancing "quality of life" experiences for the residences of Bakersfield.
Finally, you need to have a voice and encourage family, neighbors and friends to write also.
You should do this today, and again next week, and then again the week prior to the council meeting on Wednesday, December 16th at 5:15 PM.
Take action and be part of something great. We have already made Bakersfield hen friendly. Now, we need to be heard to hold our city government responsible/accountable for following through with the majority vote after the lawsuit is settled and found in our favor.
