We are at the point where the public is going to start hearing more about what we are doing. This is good. We want them to be informed. We have the support as long as our community continues to write emails and recruits new individuals to write. Bakersfield Urban Backyard Hens group has been planning for this stage of the process for months. We are organized, We have made connections and fostered positive relationships with influential people. You are always welcome to be part of the process.

If you want to help, but do not have the time or other resources, the best thing you can do is write City Council Members at City_Council@bakersfield.us . In the subject line write "Support Chickens to all Council Members". Be sure to have every family member write their own individual letter. It is not so important for you to express why you want chickens at this point. Continue to do so if you want. What is needed from you now is to continue to document your desire to have backyard hens. If you sent an email, send another one. Convince your friends and neighbors to write emails for backyard hens as well.

The Bakersfield Californian has reached out to BUBH (Bakersfield Urban Backyard Hens) and some other individuals requesting interviews. Yesterday I spoke with a reporter. He believes an article will be published this Sunday or Monday. He shared with me that the purpose of the article is informative while providing a summary of the most recent Council meeting . He was in attendance for the August 12th Council meeting. If you are ever contacted by the news and do not want to be involved with the media, you are always welcome to refer them to me at: thebubh@gmail.com . Our goal is to stay in front of the message and provide access to the media of our perspective. What we are requesting is fair, reasonable, and doable.

Also, I have spoken with Herb Benham, an author for the paper. I have shared videos and documents with him. He has not committed to writing an article at this point, but he is considering it. I'll keep you posted.

Have a great weekend. Those of you with hens, enjoy your morning omelet.
