City Council Three Minute Speech Update ...

Well, I did it. I went downtown and sat outside the City Council Chamber hoping to get in to speak to our City Council members regarding expanding the ordinance to include R-1 zone for backyard hens. I got there 50 minutes early because I heard it was limited seating and a first-come-first serve system. I was alone for 30 minutes. Finally, five police officers arrived. The doors opened at 5:00 for the 5;15 start time. Around 4:55 about ten people arrived. There was enough room for all of us. I submitted my request to speak on a non-agenda item. The entire process was smooth and easy.

I am so glad I went and spoke on behalf of the Bakersfield Backyard Hen community. It was a successful evening. Thank you for all of the feedback and encouragement.

The next scheduled meeting is Wednesday, June 24th. Reach out to me if you might want to join me and speak at the next City Council meeting. They will listen to up to five people on the same topic. (A three minute speech X 5 people = not to exceed 15 minutes on one topic). That way, we could organize and plan our message so we compliment each other with keys points. I might be able to round upon a child or two as well.
