Thank you for writing our City Council Members in support of backyard hens. Keep it up.
Thank you for sharing and encouraging others to do this also.
This next month is a critical one for us. We have been told that the City is putting together a "workshop" of information to present to the Council for a possible August meeting. Your letters of support should be included.
On the website, thebubh.wixsite.com/bubh under the tab "Documents" you will find information regarding how to be heard at a City council meeting. (The information is regarding a June meeting but the details are the same for the July meeting.) Look for and read the document titled, "How To Speak At A City Council Meeting".
The next meeting is this Wednesday at 5:15. Here is how you can be heard: (1) come down in person to speak. Once there, you fill out a public comment card. Your talk must be less than three minutes. It is easy to do. I have spoken at the previous two meetings and plan on attending again this Wednesday. (2) You may write an email to City_Clerk@bakersfieldcity.us to make a general public comment. (This is what it is called because backyard hens is not on this meeting's agenda.) This has to be done no later than 1:00 PM prior to the Wednesday meting. In the subject line you need to write "Public Statement" and the date of the meeting which is 7/15/2020. (3) You may comment by calling (661) 326-3100 and leave a voice mail message. Again, no longer than three minutes and this must be done prior to 4:00 PM on the Tuesday prior to the meeting. This is a great option for someone who might be too shy to speak publicly. (4) If you are watching the live stream of the actual meeting and wish to make a comment you may email your comment to the City Clerk at City_Clerk@bakersfieldcity.us. This email will not be read at the meeting but will be included in the permanent public record.
Backyard Hen Enthusiasts, be heard. Our hens are quiet, but you should not be!
