Your Timely Action Is Needed - IT IS NEEDED

The next City Council meeting is scheduled for January 20, 2021, at 5:15 p.m. IMPORTANT! PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR COMMENT TO THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THIS MEETING - even if you have written in the past. You need to make a public comment statement again. You should have each family member make their own individual comment. Share this information with your friends, neighbors, and family that you know are backyard hen supporters and encourage them to write and/or call. The Council Members need to hear from us that we expect them to follow through with the legalization of backyard hens by approving the amendments to the ordinance despite the possible CEQA lawsuit and the two new Council Members.

Here are two ways to do this:

1. If you wish to make a general public comment not related to a specific agenda item (backyards hens is not on the agenda, but you may and should make a comment so the new members hear your voice), submit your comment via email to the City Clerk at City_Clerk@bakersfieldcity.us no later than 1:00 p.m. prior to the Council meeting (Wednesday, January 20th). In the subject line write "Support Backyard Hens".

2. You may also comment by calling (661) 326-3100 and leaving a voicemail of no more than 3 minutes no later than 4:00 p.m. the Tuesday prior to the Council meeting. Your message must clearly indicate that your comment is a general public comment and needs to be less than three minutes. If your comment meets the foregoing criteria, it will be transcribed as accurately as possible. The comments received will be provided to the Council and be included as part of the permanent public record of the meeting. Calling is easy and only takes a moment. When emailing and/or calling be sure to clearly state that you are in favor of backyard hens. Indicate that you expect the City Council to enact the ordinance that was passed. Tell the Council that they need to stand strong against the desperate attempt of the obstructionist lawsuit and move forward with amending the ordinance for the residents of Bakersfield to own backyard hens. Finally, be sure to remind the Council Members that what we are asking for is reasonable and fair while it enhances the quality of life experiences for families. Please take a moment to email and call. Try to get your family members, friends, and neighbors to email and call also. If you have contacted Council Members previously, do so again tonight or tomorrow or Monday (don't wait). At every meeting they need to hear from as many of us as possible. This is important!
